Compliance Senior Manager

Job Title: Compliance Senior Manager
Division: Compliance 
Location: Digital Working Model – primarily remote working with option of spending 2 days per week in office location, Ireland: Dublin/Cavan, Portugal: Lisbon, Spain: Madrid
Reports to: WEM Compliance Leader

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Lead the Compliance function in Ireland to ensure that the Company meets all legal & regulatory obligations.
  • Operate independently from the business in identifying, assessing and monitoring compliance risks and compliance standards.
  • Collaboration with the Western Europe Market (WEM) Head of Compliance and the Spain and Portugal Heads of compliance in the design of the WEM compliance plan in line with Company strategy.
  • Oversee the Company’s compliance with the Compliance Risk Assessment: assess compliance risks and controls in place by the business to mitigate the associated compliance risks. Provide an independent evaluation of, and opinion on, processes, systems and controls to manage compliance risks, providing recommendations to address areas of vulnerability.
  • Ensure all circumstances of compliance breaches are investigated and prepare reports, which include remedial action points.
  • Lead engagement with Regulatory bodies in Ireland. Maintain an open, constructive and positive relationship with the regulatory bodies and manage regulatory engagement and inspections. Ensuring business units meet the required regulatory deadlines.
  • Manage the execution of the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan.
  • Verify actions undertaken by business to ensure timely resolution of compliance matters.
  • Oversee compliance training and communications for all employees, commensurate with their roles and responsibilities, according to the Western Europe Market.
  • Manage the Irish Compliance Team in providing accurate and timely compliance advice and assistance to the business.
  • Monitor the introduction of new and amended compliance obligations as set out in relevant legislation, regulations and standards. Engage with the business to implement the associated required changes to work practices, procedures and documentation.
  • Educate the business in relation to the compliance obligations to promote a strong awareness and compliance culture. Embed accountability within the business for compliance with regulatory obligations and maintain an open constructive relationship with the business.
  • Coordinate the compliance reporting to senior management including reporting to the Executive Risk Committee, Board Risk Committee and Board to ensure all stakeholders are up to date and aware of key compliance issues.
  • Develop staff skillset to ensure strong team is in place with the required mix of skills as required.


  • Professional qualification in Law or Accounting.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 8+ years relevant compliance experience preferably in Insurance/ Financial Services sector.
  • Thorough understanding of Irish financial services regulatory requirements and relevant EU directives.
  • High level of knowledge of emerging regulation across the financial services industry.
  • Proven experience of implementation of regulatory, compliance, corporate governance and compliance framework.
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory and supervisory authorities (advisable).
  • Experience of managing regulatory issues relating to business on a cross border basis.
