Liberty Insurance's €5 million Motor Policy COVID-19 Relief Fund goes live

  • Liberty’s €5 million ‘Motor Policy COVID-19 Relief Fund’ launches today, providing eligible policyholders with a cash equivalent voucher to the value of 15% of two months of their premium via its dedicated online portal

  • Customers can choose between claiming the relief as a Circle K/SuperValu voucher or donating it to Liberty’s chosen charities fighting COVID-19

  • If you would like to donate your relief value to Liberty's chosen charities, ALONE, Barnardos and Pieta, you do not need to log into the portal or take any other action. Liberty Insurance will donate the value of any unclaimed relief to the chosen charities after the deadline of 31st July has passed

In response to lower road usage and reduced risks on Irish roads because of the government's COVID-19 response measures, we are offering relief to support our motor insurance customers. All of our eligible motor insurance customers with an active policy* can avail of this return and will be able to request it from 8th June 2020, through our dedicated customer portal, www.libertyrelief.ie.

Customers will have the choice of receiving this relief as a cash equivalent voucher for Circle K or SuperValu, or donating their relief amount to ALONE, Barnardos, and Pieta to support their work with people impacted by COVID-19.

If customers choose to make a charitable donation, we will ensure the exact relief value is paid directly to the charities on their behalf.

The decision is part of Liberty Insurance’s wider national and international response to COVID-19, including providing greater flexibility on payment terms for motor and home insurance premiums, and financial contributions to Irish charities to support those most at risk during this difficult time.

In addition, Liberty has partnered with Daft.ie to provide much needed accommodation for our doctors and nurses working on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis. As part of this ‘Housing Heroes’ initiative, Liberty is providing complimentary contents insurance to all those homeowners generous enough to open up their properties to our frontline medical professionals. We have also already made charitable donations to ALONE and Pieta in Ireland, and at a European-level we have made a donation of €250,000 to Médecins Sans Frontières, to help provide help and support during this difficult time.

Commenting on the relief fund, Tom McIlduff, CEO of Liberty Insurance, said: "We hope that this measure goes some way towards supporting our customers, and the voluntary sector's vital work, during this difficult period."

*You must have an active Liberty Insurance motor policy (Car, Bike, Taxi or Commercial vehicle) for 45 consecutive days between 1st April and 31st May 2020 to be eligible for the relief. The relief fund excludes fleet policies, suspended or laid up policies and taxi policies which have changed to social, domestic and pleasure cover.

**Total amount of returns will depend on final analysis of books and requests.
