Step back no claims protection

If you have earned 4 or more years no claims bonus, have peace of mind in knowing that one claim will not mean you need to start again. If you haven't opted for full bonus protection, you will keep part of your discount if you have 4 or more years built up.

5+ years steps back to 2 years discount
4 years steps back to 1 year discount

If a second claim is made in the same insurance year, or if you have less than 4 years discount built up, the no claims discount will step back to 0 years.

FREE breakdown assist (including home-start)

For those days when your car won't start or breaks down at the side of the road, use our free 24-hour breakdown cover or home start. Using this breakdown assistance will not affect your no-claims bonus.

If you cannot drive the vehicle as a result of a breakdown, we will arrange and pay for one hour’s labour at the roadside or at your home and towing the vehicle to the nearest competent repairer or to a garage of your choice, whichever is closer.

If the repairs cannot be completed where the vehicle broke down and you are away from home (at least 3 kilometres), we can arrange and pay up to €150 for one of the following:

1. Transport for you and any non-fare paying passengers to your intended destination within the territorial limits.
2. Use of a replacement vehicle for up to 48 hours while repairs are being carried out; or
3. Bed-and-breakfast-only accommodation for one night only while repairs are being carried out, up to €35 for each person and €150 in total.

If the vehicle is repaired, we will provide the cost of public transport for you to collect the vehicle.

Windscreen cover (less windscreen replacement excess)

The cover you need for those unavoidable windscreen damages, giving you peace of mind with Liberty Insurance windscreen cover.

Windscreen repair and replacement* cover is included on all comprehensive private motor policies. This is an optional cover for third party, fire and theft policies.

We will pay the full cost of repairing or replacing (less the excess) damaged or broken glass in the windscreen or windows of the vehicle, as long as there has not been any other loss or damage. Claims under this section will not affect your no-claims bonus.

We will not pay for:
a) any amount over €150 for replacement (less the excess) or €50 for repair if the work is not carried out by
b) our approved windscreen specialists;
c) any more than two claims under this section during the period of insurance;
d) damaged or broken glass in sunroofs, glass roofs or panoramic sunroofs
e) damaged or broken glass to vehicles that are temporarily covered; or
f) damage caused by wear and tear or negligence.

European cover

We provide the minimum cover you need by law to use your car in any EU country or any other country which has made arrangements to meet the minimum insurance requirements of the Commission of the European Union, for up to 93 days. We will extend your cover to the same level you use at home (as shown in your schedule) when you want to get away on a much needed holiday in Europe, or need to work or attend school abroad.

The following cover does not apply while you are using your car abroad.

Car hire after theft (excluding taxi policies)

If your car is stolen and you don't have it back within 24 hours, we will provide a hire car until it is recovered, up to a max of five days. The car will be automatically insured under this policy, once you tell us the registration number. If the hire car is lost or damaged, we will decide how and where the car is repaired or replaced. This benefit applies to comprehensive policies only.

It is your responsibility to make sure that you meet the car hire conditions.
These may include, but are not limited to:
a) a full driving licence without endorsements
b) a credit-card deposit
c) the car being returned to the pick-up point.

The car will be automatically insured under this policy, once you tell us the registration number. If the hire car is lost or damaged, we will decide how and where the car is repaired or replaced.
 
This benefit does not apply to:
a) use of a hire car outside the territorial limits (the territorial limits are listed in the policy booklet);
b) the cost of fuel;
c) collection and delivery charges;
d) for any extra costs for use of a car that is better than our standard hire car (our standard hire car is usually a class-A vehicle); or
e) any costs where the hire car is not returned on time.

This benefit applies to private motor vehicles only.

Audio cover

We automatically offer audio cover up to 5% of the value of the vehicle before the accident happened or €635, whichever is lower, for loss of or damage to radio-receiving or transmitting equipment, taxi meter, audio equipment, electronic navigation or radar detection equipment permanently fixed to the vehicle.

The policy does not cover the loss of or damage to mobile phones and their accessories or spare parts.

Loss of keys cover

If the car keys or lock transmitter of the vehicle are lost or stolen, we will pay the cost of replacing the door and boot locks, the ignition and steering lock and the lock transmitter, as long as we are satisfied that the person who may have your keys or transmitter knows where the vehicle is. The most we will pay is €850.

Personal accident

In the most serious situations, you want to be sure you have the best cover in place. That is why we will cover the policyholder for death and certain disabilities following an accident involving the insured car as part of our comprehensive cover.

We will pay the policy holder or his/her legal representative €6500/£5000 if he/she is accidentally injured while travelling in or getting into or out of the insured vehicle and within three months this injury alone results in death, permanent loss of sight in one or both eyes or loss of one or more limbs. The most we will pay in any one period of insurance is €6500 / £5000.

We will not pay this benefit for any injury or death resulting from suicide or attempted suicide or anyone who is convicted for driving while under the influence of drink or drugs at the time of the accident.

Medical expenses

We will pay for medical expenses up to €135 for each person injured if the vehicle is involved in an accident, as long as there is no cover in force under another motor insurance policy.

Hotel expenses

If the vehicle cannot be driven after an accident or loss covered under section 1 of the policy we will pay up to €65 for the driver (or €135 for all the people in the vehicle) towards the cost of hotel expenses for an overnight stop if this is necessary.
