Third party liability cover provides the minimum cover required by law. Liberty car insurance covers third party property damage as a result of an insured loss up to €30 million and unlimited cover for third party personal injury.

Foreign Use

We provide the minimum cover you need by law to use your car in any EU country or any other country which has made arrangements to meet the minimum insurance requirements of the Commission of the European Union, for up to 93 days. We will extend your cover to the same level you use at home (as shown in your schedule) when you want to get away on a much needed holiday in Europe, or need to work or attend school abroad.

Accident Recovery

You can reduce your insurance premium by increasing the excess on your policy. The standard excess on Liberty car insurance policies is €300. This Our accident recovery benefit will pay the reasonable cost of protecting the vehicle and moving it to the nearest repairer if, as a result of any loss or damage which is covered, the vehicle cannot be driven.

Fire Brigade Charges

We will pay for local authority fire brigade charges for putting out a fire in your vehicle or for removing the driver or passengers from the vehicle using cutting equipment, up to a limit of €2,200.

New Car Replacement

If within 12 months of having bought a vehicle as new, it is severely damaged or stolen, we will replace it with a new vehicle of the same make and model.

Radio/Audio/Navigation Cover

Cover for radio, audio & navigation equipment is provided up to 5% of the current market value of the vehicle before the loss happened or €635, whichever is lower.

Loss of or damage to the following equipment is covered if it is permanently fixed to the vehicle:

• radio-receiving or transmitting equipment
• taxi meter
• audio equipment
• electronic navigation equipment

Own Damage

This provides cover for damage or loss, other than that caused by Fire or Theft, to your vehicle or its accessories and spare parts. We will chose whether to repair or replace your vehicle or pay to cover the amount of loss or damage.

Hotel Expenses

 If the vehicle cannot be driven after an accident or loss covered under the own damage section  of the policy we will pay up to €65 for the driver (or €135 for all the people in the vehicle) towards the cost of hotel expenses for an overnight stop if this is necessary.

Car Hire for Theft

If your vehicle is stolen and is not recovered within 24 hours we will provide a replacement car hire for up to five days or until the vehicle is recovered whichever is sooner.

We will pay for medical expenses up to €135 for each person injured if the vehicle is involved in an accident, as long as there is no cover in force under another motor insurance policy.

Courtesy Car

If your vehicle is repairable, you will be provided with a courtesy car for up to ten days while your vehicle is being repaired by one of our recommended repairers.

Windscreen Cover

The cover you need for those unavoidable windscreen damages, giving you peace of mind with Liberty Insurance windscreen cover.

Windscreen repair and replacement* cover is included on all comprehensive private motor policies. This is an optional cover for third party, fire and theft and third party only policies. We will pay the full cost of repairing or replacing (less the excess) damaged or broken glass in the windscreen or windows of the vehicle, as long as there has not been any other loss or damage. Claims under this section will not affect your no-claims bonus.

Breakdown Assistance*

For those days when your car won't start or breaks down at the side of the road, use our free 24-hour breakdown cover or home start.This cover only applies if shown in your schedule. Using this breakdown assistance will not affect your no-claims bonus.

If you cannot drive the vehicle as a result of a breakdown, we will arrange and pay for one hour’s labour at the roadside or at your home and towing the vehicle to the nearest competent repairer or to a garage of your choice, whichever is closer.

If the repairs cannot be completed where the vehicle broke down and you are away from home (at least 3 kilometres), we can arrange and pay up to €150 for one of the following:

Driving other Taxi/Hackney vehicles

No Claims Discount Protection

Once you have four or more years No Claims Bonus you can pay an extra premium to protect it. You will keep your car insurance no claims discount as long as no more than one fault claim arises during any one period of insurance.

Although you can protect your no-claims bonus, your premium may still be affected by any claims we pay.

Personal Accident

In the most serious situations, you want to be sure you have the best cover in place. That is why we will cover the policyholder for death and certain disabilities following an accident involving the insured car. as part of our comprehensive cover.You can pay an extra premium to have Personal accident cover. This cover applies if shown in your schedule of insurance.

We will pay the policy holder or his/her legal representative €6500/£5000 if he/she is accidentally injured while travelling in or getting into or out of the insured vehicle and within three months this injury alone results in death, permanent loss of sight in one or both eyes or loss of one or more limbs. The most we will pay in any one period of insurance is €6500 / £5000.

Loss of Keys

If the car keys or lock transmitter of the vehicle are lost or stolen, we will pay the cost of replacing the door and boot locks, the ignition and steering lock and the lock transmitter, as long as we are satisfied that the person who may have your keys or transmitter knows where the vehicle is. The most we will pay is €850.

Open Drive

Open driving provides cover for other drivers to use your vehicle if they meet the following requirements:

• The driver is between the ages of 25 and 70, inclusive
• The driver has your consent  or on your instruction as the policy holder
• The driver holds a full Irish, UK or EU driving license
• The driver has not had any accidents, claims, convictions or penalty points in the last 3 years
