Although this choice will not affect your car insurance policy, it is certainly an important one in today’s buying market. Car manufacturing techniques have come a long way since Henry Ford told his customers that they could have any colour they wanted, as long as it was black. However, some colours continue to be more popular than others when it comes to buying a car.

Metallics

Metallic finishes are far more popular than normal paint when it comes to buying a car, as drivers feel they make the car look shiny and modern. When buying a new car however the price quoted is based on standard paint, and you may have to pay a premium for a metallic finish.

Play Safe

Although a bright orange or pink car may be exactly to your taste, it is not everyone’s cup of tea and you may find that when it comes to reselling the car that the market is limited. The most popular colours for cars are blue, silver, red and black and cars in these colours are easier to sell than the more outrageous shades.

Unlucky colours?

Many people believe that green is an unlucky colour for a car, and this goes way back to ancient times when green was associated with wood spirits and considered very unlucky. There is no evidence of this, but many people may be put off buying a green car if they are in any way superstitious. Many surveys have found that it was actually grey cars which broke down more frequently than any other colour of vehicle.
